Second Day Rehearsals and Mini Concert

 Friday afternoon
the girls prepared for a
mini - concert for the school.

We handed out their AMIS t-shirts and don't they look great!

The concert opened with the Vivaldi, accompanied by a string quartet of students from the school. It sounded glorious!

The choir will sing it in the round and the house lights will be off so it will be dark, with slides of Flanders Field projected on the screen at the back of the stage.

VERY high notes!

The 1st sopranos started their sectional by working on reaching the
VERY high notes after the break.

Good morning Day 2!

Good morning Berlin!

The girls all arrived in time for their 8:30 rehearsal and, although they are a bit sleepy, they sound just wonderful! The hall isn't lit very well so these photos are a bit dark, but you will get an idea of the kind of their experience.

Amelie warming up in the alto section...

Marie warming up her voice...

Maria singing too...

Lulu in warm ups...

Salin and Lea pointing to focus their voices during warm ups....

The WHOLE choir!

While they're busy singing, I've been sorting T shirts that the choir will wear for their mini concert this afternoon. I'll post more photos then and will have had a chance to talk to our singers at lunch time! Come back later to read more about their own experiences and thoughts after lunch!

First Rehearsals

Hello from sunny, warm Brussels!

The girls all had a good evening last night with their host families and seem very happy. We gathered at 8:30 in the concert hall of St. Johns International School for the opening ceremony and words of welcome from the Middle School Head and the Head of School.

We then sorted the girls by voice and then by height. It didn't take long and they are all so professional in their attitude: hard workers all.

After so many hours of rehearsals in school in our small groups, it was great to finally all sign together. Here is a movie of the first rehearsal of the Ave Marie.

Beautiful singing HERE!

We're here!

We found on another at the train station and got on board just fine. After about an hour I asked each pair of girls to blog about their trip so far.

Lea & Marie

Hello ! We are in the train and sooo happy ! We practiced all the songs sooo hard and after the festival we will miss the rehearsals with Mrs. Andrews ! We hope that our Guest Family is nice and that we all have fun!  This is soooooo exiting !!
Maria & Lulu

Hi there, we wanted to practice the songs in the train but right now we are sitting around reading and learning for science. ;-) We are listening to music and Salins music is just sooooo loud that I can hear it! It is getting kind of boring right now, but we will find something to do! Now we are arriving at Hannover. Soon we will  go to the Cafeteria of the train because we are SOOOOOO hungry!!!!!!!!
Amelie & Salin

We just returned from lunch in the restaurant car and I was so proud of the girls! Their table manners were lovely and they are such fun to spend time with. An older woman was sharing a table with us and the girls were so sweet to her. They listen – with real interest – to her stories about her grandchildren and her, knitting and answered her questions about the school. She was very impressed with their ability to speak two languages so easily.

Our six singers have been studying, reading magazines and generally being very easy to travel with. We're having a great time!
Amelie and Salin are working hard to prepare for their science test.

In Koeln in front of the Dom. Lots of fresh air and sunshine for us!

 And we're here at last!
